Overview
If you are a non-EEA national living in Ireland, keeping your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) valid is essential — for work, travel and, later, for citizenship, because gaps in permission are not reckonable.
Renewals are made online through ISD's renewal portal. We help you apply at the right time, upload the correct documents for your stamp and respond promptly if ISD asks for more information.
ISD decides every renewal. We are an independent consultancy and cannot book or sell ISD appointments or speed up ISD processing.
Who it's for
This service is for
- Non-EEA nationals in the Republic of Ireland renewing an IRP on any stamp.
- People moving to a new stamp, for example from Stamp 2 to Stamp 1G.
- Families renewing permissions for several members (each person applies separately).
Common challenges we solve
- Applying early enough so there is no gap in permission.
- Knowing which supporting documents ISD needs for a particular stamp.
- Understanding what you can do while a renewal is pending, including travel.
- Avoiding refusal for not answering a request for further documents in time.
How we help
Our support for IRP Renewal includes:
- Checking your renewal window and the documents for your stamp.
- Preparing clear scans of your IRP, passport and supporting documents.
- Help completing and submitting the online renewal application.
- Explaining the fee, exemptions and what to expect after you receive your reference number.
- Support with any follow-up document requests.
Benefits of working with us
- No missed renewal windows or avoidable gaps in permission.
- The right documents for your stamp, first time.
- Fast, friendly answers when ISD contacts you.
Eligibility & requirements
- You must live in the Republic of Ireland and be in Ireland when you apply.
- You can apply up to 12 weeks before your current permission expires — applying early does not shorten your permission.
- Children under 16 do not normally need to register; registration is required at 16 unless the child is naturalised.
Documents you may need
Most renewals ask for uploads of:
- Your current IRP card (front and back).
- Your passport biographical page.
- Stamp-specific supporting documents (for example employment permit, employer letter, college letter or marriage certificate).
- Evidence of any change in your circumstances since your last registration.
Requirements differ by stamp. We'll confirm exactly what applies to you.
How it works
Step 1: Check your dates
We confirm your renewal window and the documents your stamp requires.
Step 2: Prepare uploads
We help you prepare clear, complete scans so ISD can assess your application without delay.
Step 3: Submit online
We guide you through the online renewal and payment of the official fee to ISD.
Step 4: Follow-up
If ISD requests more documents, we help you respond quickly — unanswered requests can lead to refusal after 14 days.
Step 5: New card
Once approved, your new IRP card is posted to you.
Important to know
- ISD processing times vary and can be lengthy at busy times; ISD does not accept expedite requests.
- If you applied before your permission expired, ISD guidance allows you to keep your previous conditions for up to 12 weeks after expiry while you wait.
- Visa-required nationals who travel abroad during a pending renewal may need a re-entry visa to return. Check ISD's current travel guidance before booking.
- Third parties are not authorised to sell ISD appointments — booking ISD appointments is free.

IRP Renewal FAQs
When should I renew my IRP?
You can apply up to 12 weeks before your current permission expires. Your new permission runs from your current expiry date, so applying early does not lose you any time.
My IRP has already expired — what should I do?
Contact us straight away. Gaps in permission can affect your status and future citizenship eligibility, so it's important to act quickly and correctly.
Do I have to pay the €300 fee?
Most people do. Exemptions include under-18s, spouses and civil partners of Irish citizens, and some protection-related categories.
Can I travel while my renewal is being processed?
It depends on your nationality and ISD's current travel guidance. Visa-required nationals may need a re-entry visa to come back. Ask us before you book.
